Mobilising public awareness in Germany, the Netherlands, Lithuania and Poland for the consequences of Global Ageing on development

Project goal

To raise awareness on global ageing problem and its impact for development cooperation. Project is implemented by HelpAge (Germany) and partners: World Granny (the Netherlands), Mental Health Perspectives (lith. – Psichikos sveikatos perspektyvos) (Lithuania), and Fundacja Sue Ryder (Poland).

Project results

An exhibition “The silent heroes” was shown 7 times in different Lithuanian cities. It consists of ten amazing photos and five touching stories about African grandmothers and grandchildren whom they take care of.

A theatre play “People are living here” on global ageing was staged together with “Palėpės teatras” from Vilnius Gediminas Technical University and is shown periodically in 2012.

Social campaigns “Age Demands Action” were organized on the 1st of October 2012– international day of elderly persons.

Educational events on development cooperation, Millennium Development Goals and global ageing were organized in Lithuanian high schools and universities.

In 2013 meetings with elderly person Joseph Mbatia from Tanzania were organized in Lithuania. During the meetings Mr. Mbatia discusses about the life in Sub-Saharan Africa together with Lithaunian learners, students, elderly persons and.

Educational material “Development cooperation, global ageing and mental health” was elaborated for education professionals in Lithuania.

Additionally Mental Health Perspectives organized training for journalists aiming to provide knowledge on discrimination of vulnerable groups in Lithuania and across the globe, on child and human rights, mental health and global ageing challenges.
